As of May 2008, Google Checkout is still a relatively new system - it's had its teething troubles, it would be reasonable to admit (even if Google won't), but then no payment gateway is 100% error-free.

Its big advantage is that an internet merchant account, which can be expensive in their own right, is not required. Also, at present, there is the possibility of paying no transaction fees, if the Google Checkout account is linked to an Adwords account - spend £1 on AdWords, get £10 free processing.

oscommerce

There are 2 levels of Google Checkout: Level 1 Integration basically just adds a Google checkout button to your osCommerce page, and all the order processing is handled by Google. No orders appear in your osCommerce administration panel, stock is not deducted.

Level 2 Integration returns the order information from Google Checkout to your osCommerce site, where it can be checked and processed, pending despatch. You can also charge pre-authorisations, and make partial or full refunds, as normal.

At the moment the service is only available to US and, recently, to UK sellers. The existing US-designed Google Checkout osCommerce payment modules do not work effectively for UK sellers. We can help integrate Google Checkout (Level 1 or 2) into your site - contact us for a quote.
